About the paintings
Gray is the value of silence, of stillness, of neutrality. Gray is the calm interlude amid opposites.
In this series of paintings, the visual of gravity is as important as emptiness, a counterbalance simply suggested, where light and shadow converse, blending the line between background and foreground while enveloping the subjects and their place on an implied surface. Negative space dominates physical forms in these compositions where the rendering of them is disproportionally, but equally, balanced.
“In this body of developing work, I link ideas by approaching process and technique to explore a particular focus. I am interested in rendering objects with clarity while contrasting them with a suggested representation of space they inhabit, the gray between realism and perception.”
These new paintings are among more work now at our gallery in Vermont.
